Sigulda is one of the most popular and oft-visited tourism locations in Latvia due to its beautiful surroundings, in which the marvellous ancient valley of the River Gauja lies. The surroundings of the city are included in Gauja National Park, which is a nature complex formed as a result of geological processes, and one that is unique in the Baltic States. In its grounds you will find many steep slopes, glens, brooks, and sandstone and dolomite rocks and caves. Within the park’s grounds there are 221 cultural monuments, as well as the largest density of castle mounds in such a compact locality in Latvia.
